چکیده

We present results from a highly resolved large-eddy simulation of freely developing Blasius profile over concave boundary in large spanwise domain. Due to the initial Reynolds and Görtler numbers (Reθ,0 = 1175, Gθ,0 75), we observe onset two dominant wavelengths: first dominating linear/transition region, λ1, second turbulent λ2. Extending previous linear stability analysis (LSA) higher non-dimensional wavenumbers, both wavelengths instability correspond predictions LSA, latter comparable laminar theory by replacing kinematic viscosity with definition number. The predicted spatial modes compare well computed profiles for λ1 skin friction coefficient Cf is found heterogeneous direction according emerging λ2 instability. report smooth increase theoretical layer those flat plate. values only slightly overshoot these domain existence wavelength λ2, very different that reported at lower numbers.

Study of the Transition to Instability in Second-Harmonic Generation with Scale Index Method

The emergence of second-harmonic generation (SHG) is a pivotal issue to the development of nano-optical devices and interfaces. Here, we perform a classical analysis of the SHG dynamics with the aim of determining critical values of the electric field. The signals of the SHG process are nonlinear, so it seems reasonable that chaos theory can be a suitable tool to analyze their dynamics. For thi...

Transition Probability to Turbulent Transport Regime

Transition phenomena between thermal noise state and turbulent state observed in a submarginal turbulent plasma are analyzed with statistical theory. Time-development of turbulent fluctuation is obtained by numerical simulations of Langevin equation which contains hysteresis characteristics. Transition rates between two states are analyzed. Transition to Instability in Segmented Rijke Tube

Thermoacoustic instabilities can arise in systems where unsteady heat release is favorably coupled with acoustic pressure oscillations. A modified Rijke tube with segments having different sections is found to have lower threshold levels of heat addition rate needed for exciting the fundamental acoustic mode of the tube. Experiments indicate that about 115 W of heating power is required to prod...

Turbulent resistivity driven by the magnetorotational instability

Aims. We measure the turbulent resistivity in the nonlinear regime of the MRI, and evaluate the turbulent magnetic Prandtl number. Methods. We perform a set of numerical simulations with the Eulerian finite volume codes Athena and Ramses in the framework of the shearing box model. We consider models including explicit dissipation coefficients and magnetic field topologies such that the net magn...

Turbulent magnetic pressure instability in stratified turbulence

A reduction of total mean turbulent pressure due to the presence of magnetic fields was previously shown to be a measurable effect in direct numerical simulations. However, in the studied parameter regime the formation of large-scale structures, as anticipated from earlier mean-field simulations, was not found. An analysis of the relevant mean-field parameter dependency and the parameter domain...
